1sts Ready for Timperley on Sunday

It was a long weekend for the 1st XI squad as, having enjoyed the end of season Awards Dinner on Friday night and Helen Tully's wedding on Saturday, it was an early start yesterday for the trip to Watford to play West Herts in their first Investec Women's Hockey League relegation avoidance play off match.
Having gone behind to an 11th minute goal, Sarah Payne produced a 23rd minute equaliser from a penalty corner only for Exe to fall behind again within 2 minutes. It was then the turn of another long serving club member, Clare Whitworth, to produce a second equaliser from open play to take the teams to 2-2 at half time. Exe took the lead after 52 minutes when new member, Emily Mitchem, continued her goalscoring run with another penalty corner goal before another new member, Emma Ross, eased the nerves with a third PC goal two minutes later. Mitchem then confirmed the win with her second goal 2 minutes from the end to give Exe a resounding 5-2 victory.
This result sets the team up for their second play off game v Timperley on Sunday. The match at ST LUKE'S SCHOOL, EXETER starts at 2pm. A win will secure IWHL safety - any other result will leave the girls waiting for the result of the final play off match between Timperley & West Herts on 22nd April.
Please come along and support the girls who play for Exe with pride, passion and commitment.
