Match Report | This weekend we faced the most highly anticipated game of the season so far; a clash of the two top of the league teams both of whom are fighting for promotion this year - Exe 3's vs. Sidnouth & Ottery 1. The game certainly lived up to expectations with 70 minutes of nail-biting high intensity hockey. Right from the start S&O put pressure on Exe, forcing us to get our heads up and start looking for opportunities. The game was very tight and even in the first half with 50-50 possession and equal strikes on goal. Eventually Exe 3's bagged the first goal of the game - a beautifully executed short-corner with Nicole Van Oosterom finding the backboard. S&O were quick to react and equalised at half-time. In the 2nd half, S&O capatalised on the small errors Exe made which allowed them a further 2 goals. They continued to put pressure on our defence achieving multiple short-corner consecutively. However, MOM Emma Renshaw, Sian William's, Hannah Burton and Izzy Olney were rock solid in defence dissallowing the opposition from adding to the score line. With this added confidence, Exe maintained composure; distributing the ball across the pitch. Megan Hopton, Emma Hulme and Katie Briggs made some excellent lead runs into the oppositions 25 providing Exe with another short-corner with Nicole Van Oosterom finding the back board again. Shortly after, Hope Evan's followed suit making the score 3-3. The final minute countdown begun. The end was near. Unfortunately luck was not on our side this weekend and S&O managed to bring the final score to 4-3. Throughout the game Tara Pidwell made some excellent saves keeping Exe in the game. A fantastic team performance folks! |
