Match Report |
Exe Ladies 1st Team travelled to Clifton 2s this weekend to fight it out for a win which has so often eluded them in this long-standing fixture. The match began with Clifton looking the sharper team and Exe were forced to soak up plenty of early pressure. Clifton got their reward at the end of the first quarter with a well-finished passage of play to take the lead. Exe had a more equal share of possession as the game progressed and were unlucky not to score, instead conceding again just before half time. The second half saw an Exe resurgence however and attacking pressure resulted in a reverse stick goal from Clare Whitworth to bring the score to 2-1. Clifton replied within a few minutes however, scoring a breakaway goal to extend their lead to 3-1. Exe were not done yet however and after a short corner fell to Caitlin Searle, the score was 3-2 and the final few minutes of the game were tense for both sides. Despite a number of further chances for Exe, the score remained 3-2.
