Match Report |
Exe Ladies 1st Team hosted long-standing rivals Oxford Hawks on Saturday in a close-fought and tense match that ended in a 2-2 draw. The game began at a high pace with early chances to score for both sides and Exe dealt well with a number of promising attacks from the visitors. However, an interception and quick break by Hawks resulted in a goal to break the deadlock. Exe responded with a string of chances which finally resulted in them being awarded a penalty stroke after a goal-denying tackle from a Hawks defended. Ruby Jarman stepped up and confidently placed the ball past the keeper to bring the score to 1-1. Just before half time Oxford launches a swift counter-attack from midfield and scored again however to take the score to 2-1. The second half saw end-to-end play, penalty corners and goal-scoring opportunities for both teams but a brilliant passage of play from Exe gave Becky Fagg the chance to draw the game level once again when she slotted home a great cross from Emily Mitchem. The final minutes saw Exe under pressure from a sustained Oxford attack but they managed to resist the challenge and hold out for a well-earned point. Exe travel to Bristol next weekend to take on Clifton 2s.
