Match Report | Man of the Match: Megan Hopton A grey cloud lingered over St Peter's school on Saturday morning. A battle was about to commence, a battle of the Exe's! The whistle broke the silence and we were off! The 4s immediately took advantage of first push-back, formulating a speedy attack towards the 3s circle resulting in the first short corner of the game. The defence stepped up and successfully cleared the ball away allowing us to retaliate. Exe 3's initially struggled to penetrate the strong Exe 4's defence. The 3s were rewarded several short corners for their efforts, however the 4's GK was making saves left, right, and centre, preventing Emma Helliwell's dangerous drag flicks from entering the goal. After much determination, Hannah Bolwell slotted the ball in the net and the 3's went into half time 1-0 up. For the second half the 3s tightened their press, increased their turnover rate, and distributed the ball quickly accross the pitch which resulted in three more goals (from Charlie Lewis x2 and Megan Hopton) for the 3's. It was a fantastic game, with both teams put through their paces. We are really looking forward to seeing both teams progress through the league this year. |
