Match Report | A 9.30 am early start, we started the game not quite awake: losing ball retention, and reacting too slowly when free hits were taken. Exe keeper Sally Turner’s on the line stick save prevented an early score but S&O kept up the pressure and managed to take the lead. Defensive marking needed to tighten up as experienced Sidmouth & Ottery forwards took full advantage of this, converting chances into goals. An unfortunate injury to Sidmouth & Ottery stopped the game for several minutes. Exe regrouped after Bridget Culver’s team talk was put into practice - Exe started to increase their intensity and ball retention, a marked improvement in the team’s performance ended the first half. Exe were losing at half time 2-0. Conceding these goals were disappointing, and the second half started with vigour and intention. A quick mid counter-attack ended with Harmony Evans dribbling past S&O defence, wasted no time just inside the circle - a high slap into the goal put Exe onto the score sheet. Exe continued to press growing in confidence. The opposition were surprised at the increased intensity but Exe concentration lapsed, and Sidmouth & Ottery went onto score a further two goals. Despite several scoring opportunities Exe were very disappointed not to convert these into goals. Exe 5ths although fielding some players just new to the league this season, are really beginning to grow both in confidence and skill. A few last minute penalty corners, the last one struck well by Daisy Keyte went frustratingly just wide of the goal. Finished result 4-1 win to Sidmouth & Ottery. |
