Ladies 5th XI Vs Sidmouth & Ottery 4

Exe travelled to Ottery St Mary for the final match of the year against Sidmouth and Ottery 4s.

Exe started brightly appearing to have lots of time of the ball with Tilly Carpenter and Esme Kilburn-Thompson linking together really well. Sidmouth & Ottery fought hard though, and we're never far from a breakaway of their own.  It was off the back of a push by the home side that Exe fired a ball from deep on the left.  Tilly Carpenter picked up and fired across the D for Esme Kilburn-Thompson to casually swing on the reverse across the face of the goalie and into the goal. 

Half time: 0-1

Both teams, refreshed from the break, worked hard from the pushback.  Exe probably held the advantage and were awarded a couple of penalty corners.  One of these was the opening for Exe to double their advantage with Esme Kilburn-Thompson scoring her second from a straight strike from the top.  Ottery replied with a couple of penalty corners of their own, but the Exe defence maintained their reputation for excellent defence at corners, and the home side were unable to force their way onto the scoresheet.

Player of the match: Jojo Bannister just pipped most of the rest of the team in the vote for player of the match.  The across the board voting reflected a real team effort.
