| Match Report | Exe 5s travelled to Kingsbridge Community College on a windy afternoon to face top of the table Dartmouth. Dartmouth had the ball in the back of the goal before Exe really got going today. This could have resulted in Exe heads dropping, but instead they picked themselves up and competed fiercely for the ball putting together some good passes. Dartmouth were very quick to the tackle though and managed to force another. Exe then found their rhythm and took a lot of the possession deservedly winning a couple of penalty corners, leading to a shot from Ella Evernden finding Erica Pearce by the left post to fire home. Against the run of play now, Dartmouth did manage to steal one back just before half time. Half time: 3-1 The second half started with Exe making several runs through the defence but never quite finding the back board. Time and again Esme Kilburn-Thompson found herself frustrated at the top of the D by some great last line defending. Now playing with all 11 players in defences, Dartmouth became physical and twice had players yellow carded for reckless tackling. Despite all their possession though, Exe were unable to strike, and to add insult to injury were twice more broken themselves on the counter attack. Full time 5-1
Player of the match: Katie Briggs unanimously voted player of the match for tireless work in the midfield Sidelined Dartmouth players and the home side umpire both independently took the time to congratulate Exe on their good work today. Quoting them, "the scoreline was not a fair reflection of the game today". A fabulous team effort Exe can be proud of. |
