Match Report

Exe were faced with Plymouth Uni in the semi-finals of the Devon Cup! With the home advantage, Exe started strongly, taking control of the first half with some quick passes and strong runs through the middle. Very few attacks were made by Plymouth, with Exe having the majority of chances on goal. However, just before the half time whistle, Exe conceded a penalty corner, and subsequently a goal, from a well worked set piece. After a strong motivational speech by Coach, Jo Pope, Exe started the second half with vigour. Some excellent passing through midfield, and great running upfront, Beck Fagg was able to put the ball in the back of the net to equal the score. Unfortunately, Plymouth were quick to reply, with another well worked penalty corner. However, Exe continued to work hard, with relentless and solid defence, resulting in a number of counter attacks and chances on goal. After a number of near misses, Bryony Vandenberg finally equalised just before the final whistle.

This meant penalty flicks; and a chance for Sally Turner to step up and make some game winning saves. She saved the first two, and a third miss by Plymouth, meant Exe won the game and secured their place in the final.
