Match Report

Exe won a thrilling match in freezing conditions against Firebrands today in West Premier 1. Exe got off to a flying start as their first attack resulted in a goal for Emily Mitchem. Firebrands responded quickly and took advantage of a bouncing ball to create an effective two on one to bring the score back to 1-1. They then took the lead through a crash ball into the circle and a lucky deflection to take the lead into half time. The second half started with a  series of goalmouth scrambles for Exe but great goalkeeping denied an early goal to equalise. Exe continued to pile on the pressure and were rewarded with a short corner which Julie Allison finished to bring the score to 2-2. Exe then capitalised on their momentum through an accurate strike from Emily Mitchem from another short corner to give Exe a 3-2 lead. With two minutes to go, however, Firebrands broke through midfield and brought the game back to a draw with less than two minutes to go. Exe were determined to take the win though and Ellie Colton managed to squeeze a final goal in with just 10 seconds remaining to win the match 4-3.
