Match Report

Exe 5s turned up in Torquay today to play Torbay in what was expected to be a tough game. The game provided a great opportunity for players who hadn't played league hockey before to give it a go, and to give some retired players a leg stretch!

The first half saw some strong attack from Torbay but some equally strong defence from Exe. Torbay's efforts soon paid off when they were rewarded with their first goal, followed soon after by two more.

Half time: 0-3

The second half saw some well linked up attack from both sides and once again Exe's defenders were kept on their toes. The Torbay defence were also challenged and after capitalising on an advantage from a Torbay foot, Carlie Karakusevic made the most of a strong cross from Jojo Bannister and gave us a hard fought for goal. A few short corners for Torbay saw a couple of Exe players sent to the halfway line leaving just two defenders (with a combined age of 122, but all that experience meant the ball stayed out of the goal)! Unfortunately tiredness got the better of Exe towards the end and Torbay made the most of this leaving the score at the end 9-1. Our man of the match was Rachel Morris,  followed closely by Jill Dupain,  Maya Fielding  and Bri White showing what a team effort it was.

Final score: 1-9

The umpires did make special mention today about what a valiant fight the team put up, and that the score line really does flatter Torbay's play, it certainly wasn't as one sided as it seems. Thank you everyone for stepping in and stepping up!
