Ladies 5th XI Vs Sidmouth & Ottery 4ths

Exe 5ths welcome bottom of the table Sidmouth and Ottery 4ths to St Peter's for an early morning run out in persistent drizzle. 

Both teams started brightly, but Exe probably took the advantage of possession due to being more determined to scrap for the loose ball.  First honours went to Exe after 5 minutes as Lynette Hawes strolled through the defence in the D to score.   A second goal came from one of very few short corners in the game.  A well worked set piece with Lynette Hawes sending the ball to Jojo Bannister striking from top D and then sneaking in to tap home from the left hand post. 

Half time: 2-0

Sidmouth and Ottery clearly benefitted from the half time team talk. They came out fighting for the second half - putting much more effort into going for the 50-50 ball, particularly as Exe attempted 16yard hit outs; showing more discipline in the press. The Exe defence held firm, however, and Maya Fielding in goal was rarely troubled.  Their increased success in stringing some nice passes together unfortunately failed to bring them success in the attacking quarter, and with Exe clearing the lines well and,  sending the ball down both flanks,  opportunities presented themselves at the other end.  Exe took two of these, firstly a nice flick in from the left by Rachel Morris and finally Jojo Bannister tipping in off another Lynette Hawes push to the left post.

Quite a scrappy game, but Exe can be well pleased with a good all round performance.
