Match Report | High flying Ashmoor arrived at St Peter's for an early afternoon game against Exe 5ths. Ashmoor started the match with a frenetic tempo and a high level of individual skills and Exe struggled to keep up in the opening minutes. Ashmoor players were first to every ball and closed down everything when they were temporarily deprived of possession. The first goal came from a penalty corner, and the next short corner ended with a penalty flick due to an attempted clearance from the line by an Exe foot. After just ten minutes Exe were 0-2 down. Things settled a little and Exe managed to hold on to more of the possession as the half progressed but succumbed to an Ashmoor midfielder's excellent solo goal. Another on the stroke of half time saw the scoreline 0-4. HALF TIME: 0-4 Exe picked themselves up well and some dogged defence kept out a succession of short corners over the next 25 minutes. Both sides were tiring but all the luck went with Ashmoor as various falls and injuries meant vital clearances sometimes went astray. After the first goal against them in the second half snuck over the line Exe heads dropped a little and a couple of scrappy goals in the closing minutes left the scoreline more heavily in favour of Ashmoor than the Exe defence deserved. FULL TIME: 0-8 player of the match: Naiomi and Mia with Annie a close runner up - reflecting the hard work put in by the defence today.
