Match Report | Exe 0 – 0 Firebrands Exe Ladies 1st team hosted West rivals Firebrands in the National League West on Saturday in a tight and keenly-contested match that ended in a goalless draw. With both teams desperate for valuable points to move them up the league table, it was always going to be a tense game with both teams fighting for possession and all-important goals. The first half saw Exe soak up plenty of pressure from the visitors who created a number of potential chances on goal. Exe’s best chance came from a fast break ending in a goal-mouth scramble and a save on the line by one of the Firebrands defenders. Exe stepped up the pressure in the second half and had a number of chances but couldn’t manage to find the back of the net. Firebrands took the game right to the wire by winning two penalty corners on the final whistle and Exe were forced to defend the draw right to the end. The match saw Exe gain their first clean sheet of the season and retain 8th position in the table. They travel to Oxford Hawks next week, hoping for a win to bolster their points total. |
