Match Report |
A great start to the season for Exe 2s. We put Exeter uni under pressure from the start, passing the ball nicely, maintaining possession. We did concede a couple of short corners but these were dealt with and the ball was in our court again. The ball was passed to Laura Allen who took it past the defender to the back line, turned and passed back to Lucy Brook who was making a run into the D. She struck the ball sweetly into the left corner of the goal to make it 1-0. The rest of the first half was fairly even with pressure from both sides as we began to tire with only 11 players to their 15! An intelligent half time talk by "manager" Bridget Culver and Mel Vaggers gave us a couple of things to work on. Thankfully Bridget had brought her kit and helped us out in the second half, meaning those needing a couple of minutes to breathe could do. Exeter uni started the second half strongly but we focused and got possession back. With some lovely play down the right from Megan Langley and Heather Edworthy the ball was again in our possession in the D. Lucy Brook was in a great position again to put in the final touch to score her second goal. Exeter uni did not give up and the last 20 mins saw our defenders Rosie Karakusevic, Becky Goodwill, Emma Carragher and Karen Tinley having to work hard. They were disciplined and organised but under pressure (we had 11 men behind the ball), Exeter uni managed to work the ball around to sneak a goal in by the left post. Becca Rushworth made some great saves to keep the score in our favour and we had a couple of 1 on 1s with their goalie but, with an element of relief (although we weren't panicking), the final whistle went. 2-1 the end result and fully deserved. Well done everyone. Let's keep it going for next week.
