Match Report |
It was a blistery rainy day in Exeter when Exe 1’s played Bath 1sts. The game started off evenly matched with the ball being transferred well around the back by both teams. Exe seemed to settle after the first 10 minutes and after some good runs from Becky Fagg and a number of D penetrations a short corner was won. After a good shot on goal by captain Kelly Barrett and a save from the Bath keeper, Helen Bray played the deflection passing it around the D to Anna-Mae Morton who finished well resulting in the ball hitting the back board. Bath then hit back hard and their possession was on point which tested Exe, but some excellent defending skills from Sarah Payne and Helen Bray kept the score at 1-0 going into half time. The second half saw a number of events take place, but it was Bath who came out fighting. Some very good tackles from Rachel Cook and some agile saves by Kate Garman kept the score still at 1-0. Exe remained determined to score again but despite some good runs from Bride Marlow and Helen Tully nothing came of it. It was Clare Whitworth who eventually won a short corner. Forward Fi Moran managed to covert with a lovely two touch shot to see the score line to 2-0. Bath’s goal keeper was not happy with decision and Bath ended up going down to 9 players and a kicking back. Shortly after, another Bath player was shown a green card which then took them down to 9 players on the pitch. However, despite this, it was Bath who seemed to gather momentum and make gains down the pitch towards Exe’s D. Unfortunately Bath left the surge of good play too late in the game and the final score was 2-0. Player of the match was Becky Fagg. A massive thank you must go to all of our supporters who came to watch in grotty weather conditions.
