Clifton was always going to be a tough start of season test for Exe but for the first 20minutes Exe dominated taking a 1-0 lead through new striker Anna-Mae Morton.
Clifton returned the pressure and equalised making it 1-1 at half time. Exe drew ahead after the break taking a 2-1 lead courtesy of a Bridie Marlow deflection from a well worked short corner. Again, Clifton drew level but Exe won a short corner in the closing moments of the game which led to Sarah Payne deflecting from the post to secure Exe the final 3 points.
