Ladies 2nd XI Vs Caradon

‘Twas the last match before Christmas, yet still in November,

So we tried to make it a match to remember.

We were missing six players, but who would have thought,

As the eleven who turned up, they just fought and they fought.

The sun was a shining as we started apace,

And all the players put on their determined ‘game face’.

We wanted this game, yet knew it’d be tough,

So playing well was going to be good enough.

The first half was ours; that’s not really a boast,

Despite the opposition having a shot hitting the post.

From Fi’s PC shot we really felt that we’d scored,

But the umpires deemed it should have hit the backboard.

Then Bridie went on a mazing run round the back,

And Fi Hailstone was on hand to end the attack,

But the whistle blew as the ump saw a hitch.

She said that the ball had gone off the pitch (boooo).

The second half came and we really got going,

As everything at the oppo we were throwing and throwing.

A PC was gained and Karen fed in to the post,

Charlotte had the deflection then MOM Bridge was the ‘toast’.

We found our momentum and we pressed and we pressed,

At times the standard was nearing our best.

But we lost our focus and it wasn’t to be,

As Caradon scored from the top of the D.

Three points were deserved, but we’ll settle for a draw,

As right near the end we thought they might score.

A short corner shot went heading goal ward bound,

But Sal pulled out the save as she dived full length on the ground…

(ok a little ‘poetic licence’ there!!)

Well played to all those who have been in the Exe II’s squad this season so far.  We know that some of you were with us in spirit today, however the team today were awesome with the ‘newbies’ fitting in brilliantly.

Bridie 2, Karen 2, Becky Morris, Sal and Fi Hailstone all being awarded votes.

DoD is not usually done, but a couple of ‘mentions in dispatches’:

Bridie for 2mins stood beside the sign that says ‘push button to open door’ and trying to work out how to open it.

Fi – walking off the pitch frustrated that we had lost ??!! and we have our winner right there me thinks?
