Match Report |
Exe entered their away fixture against Firebrands with the determination to get back to winning ways. The pressure was applied from the start with a lot of good switching round the back and making use of the available space. The breakthrough came midway into the first half when Helen Tully dribbled through several Firebrands players to the back line before cutting in and slotting the ball past the keeper. Any Firebrands counter-attack was quickly mopped up by the Exe defence with Emma White and Helen Bray putting in some excellent tackles to prevent Firebrands having any real opportunities. The second half started off shakily for Exe with Firebrands getting some good passages of play together in the first ten minutes, but Exe managed to soak it up before switching the momentum back. Exe should have converted more goals but Firebrands held on, before a short corner led to a well-controlled deflection in from the post by Sarah Payne to give Exe a 2-0 lead which was maintained to the full time whistle.
